Selection and Optimization on Leakage Detection Technology for Gas Transmis sion Pipeline

  • The pinciple of several leakage detection methods used in gas transmission pipeline and their advantages/shortcomings have been systematically introduced. It is pointed out that the proper leakage detection technologies should be determined according to the indexes on sensitivity, location accuracy, suitability and effectiveness. The comparison and optimization to the detection technologies given in the paper have been carried out in accordance with the known 9 indexes which are used to evaluate the leakage detection technology. The results have showed that although the continuous detection technology is effective, it is not suitable in such a way when the leakage volume is less than 0.5% of flow, and it has to be used, combined with other detection technologies. It is considered that the accident rate curve and risk evaluation can be used to optimize the leakage detection technologies, especially for those that pipeline is under operation, and this is an effective scenario.
