Abstract: The principle of pipeline route selection and pipe laying plan under the conditions of several typical landforms such as plain area, mountainous area, valley area, loess area etc. are introduced. It is pointed out that in the course of pipeline route locating, when two types of landforms are in the same area, the comprehensisve analysis on them should be made to understand the geological properties of the landforms in order to make the optimal selection. When selecting the pipeline route, the stability and safety of a pipeline must be put in the first place. Only after meeting the demands of safety, reliability and economy should the pipeline route be a optimized pipeline route.
