Abstract:
The corrosion defect of long-distance oil and gas pipeline is the main cause of pipeline accidents. Corrosion rate is an important parameter for monitoring pipeline corrosion defects and also one of the critical basis ensuring pipeline safety. This paper reviews existing calculation methods for pipeline corrosion rate, including testing method, linear prediction method, calculation method based on repeat pipeline inline inspections, mathematical prediction method, and NACE recommended method. According to the characteristics of these methods, their accuracy, applicability, usability and rationality are considered comprehensively to find out the calculation method suitable for different pipelines. Applying the accurately calculated corrosion rate to the reliability calculation and inline inspection planning of pipeline can benefit the operation of oil and gas pipeline safely and effectively.
