Abstract:
Wireless networks are required to monitor oil leakage in airport oil tankfarm. Accordingly, wireless sensor nodes with low power consumption are developed by using photo ionization detector (PID) techniques. These nodes combine MSP430 single-chip microcomputers and CC2520 radio frequency communication system. In addition, these nodes use lithium battery and solar power as energy supplies. These nodes contain low-voltage integral PID elements and tailor-made positive gas-collection devices, and their integral temperature sensors can be used for temperature compensation. Assessments have been made for efficiency and power consumption of these nodes for oil leakage detection in airport oil tankfarm. Study results show that these nodes can satisfy relevant requirements related to detection of oil by using wireless network. Eventually, design for an innovative oil leakage detection and alarm system is developed for airport oil tankfarm. The new system integrates detection technologies, computer technologies and wireless network. It is characterized by specifically designed gas-collection devices, coordinated monitoring of different nodes and low power consumption. Generally speaking, the entire system is advantageous for smartness, safety, reliability, low power consumption and operability. The system can satisfy demands for on-site monitoring operations.
