Abstract:
Leakages of submarine pipelines may induce pollution to marine environment. Accordingly, more attentions have been paid for periodical inspections of inline conditions of submarine pipelines to determine their corrosion. A new scheme for inline inspections of riser in submarine pipeline is developed by using remote field eddy current detector. Field applications show that the new scheme can be deployed in offshore operation sites. The remote field eddy current detectors not only can detect and position corrosion and specific positions within riser accurately, but also can effectively eliminate possibility of sticking in submarine pipelines with minor IDs, since no contact between remote field eddy current detector and inline walls of the submarine pipelines is required. In this way, challenges related to inline inspection of riser by using remote field eddy current and relevant cables can be solved effectively. The new scheme may provide valuable guidance for inline inspection of riser in submarine pipelines.
