Abstract:
Regulations applicable for pipeline wall thickness design are different in all countries, and the wall thickness designed for a same working condition can be distinct. In order to guarantee the accuracy of wall thickness calculation, it is necessary to compare and analyze the wall thickness designs in different countries. This paper mainly discusses the key differences in the pipeline wall thickness design standards of the US, Canada, the UK, German, Europe, Australia, Russia and China, presents the main calculation formulas adopted by each standard, and reviews the stipulations of each standard on definition and assignment of design pressure, pipe diameter, toughness and safety factor. All calculation formulas are sorted out and their results are compared. Moreover, all standards in such countries are evaluated and classified for purpose of engineering designers' reference. The comparison shows that, regardless of some differences in the form, all these formulas can be derived from the theoretical wall thickness calculation formula.
