Abstract: With regard to the problems in the assessment of welding techniques and welder certification for the Central Asian Gas Pipeline, API 1104 and СНиП standards are compared in terms of assessment principle of welding techniques, types of mechanical tests and examination and certification of welders. Through analogy analysis of relevant key points, the principles for preparing documents related to welding technique assessment and welder examination procedures applicable to the Central Asian Gas Pipeline are proposed. Based on the API 1104 and СНиП standards and considering the current conditions of pipeline construction in China and Kazakhstan, the above-mentioned problems are effectively addressed in the principle that the pipeline construction can not be conducted until the owner has approved the procedure documents that are prepared and submitted by the contractors.
