Abstract:
Abandonment is a necessary choice after the oil and gas pipeline is out of service permanently. In China, the research thereof is still in its infancy. This paper presents the practices of pipeline abandonment in countries with developed pipelines and rich oil and gas resources, especially waste pipeline residue cleaning, demolition of pipes and accessories, environmental protection and waste recycling. Moreover, relevant international standards on the abandonment of oil and gas pipelines, selected basis and considerations of different disposal methods, and projects with typical disposal methods are analyzed, that provide a reference for the establishment of the specification on the abandonment of onshore oil and gas pipelines in China and the formation of the technical system on waste pipe residue cleaning, grouting reinforcement and pipeline demolition.
