Abstract:
It is difficult for high-grade (≥X90) pipeline steel to arrest crack by its own toughness, and there are lack of related standards applicable to design of crack arrestor for such steel. In China, the gas pipelines which are increasingly turning to high grade steels are facing huge challenges in safety and reliability, and crack arrest is one of the key sectors. History and current situation of crack arrest technologies for long-distance gas pipelines in China and abroad are systematically coalesced in respect to theoretical study and engineering design and application. Moreover, related calculation formula and principles of crack arresters are introduced, and problems and deficiencies in current crack control technologies are analyzed. Finally, the target of research on crack arrest of high-grade pipeline steels are pointed out. The conclusions of this paper will be significant for the development of high-grade steel long-distance gas pipelines.
