Abstract:
Based on the main points of project management, 8 engineering project management modes widely used at home and overseas and their strengths & weaknesses and ranges of application are described, including DBB (Design-Bid-Build) mode, DB (Design-Build) mode, CM (Construction Management) mode, PMC (Project-Management-Contractor) mode, BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) mode, partnering mode, EPC (Engineering-Procurement-Construction) mode and PPP (Public and Private Partnership) mode. The DB mode is one of the modes with the weakest project design control by the owner, BOT mode and PPP mode are new financing modes by which the government introduces private sources for construction of public infrastructures to solve the contradiction between infrastructure expansion and lack of government finance. Three projects in Lanzhou-Zhengzhou-Changsha Pipeline, Sudan Phase 1 Pipeline and Mackenzie Valley Pipeline are enumerated to analyze the applicability of different project management modes.
