Abstract: The author considers that there will be new opportunities for developing our oil and/or gas pipeline and welded pipe industry in the West Opening Project, and meanwhile, the pipeline networks' construction of West-east Pipeline Project makes strict demands on pipe making industry. The paper describes the development prospects of our oil and/or gas pipelines and the demands on welded pipes and tubes, reveals the gaps in steel milling and pipe making with foreign countries, and points out that the metallurgical and pipe making enterprises should renew production equipments, process or technology, inspection methods and production capability to meet the needs of the pipeline project in order to promote the construction of West-east Pipeline Project.
