Abstract: At present time, the capacity of petroleum reserves in China could not meet the demand of petroleum enterprise and government to cope with emergency. Through analyzing the current status quo of petroleum reserves in China and the challenge at home and abroad, the authors discuss the necessity for establishing the strategic petroleum reserves in China. According to the experience of petroleum reserves worldwide, the opinion of establishing a petroleum reserves system to adapt to the situation of China is brought forward in the article.
